Review: Kingdom of the Cursed

Kingdom Of The Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Genre: Fantasy

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost–even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked–princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

So this one was tough to review. I wanted to love it. I enjoyed different elements but there was some I didn’t.

Things I liked:
•Italy and all the Italian elements in the story!
•Nonna- I had a Nonna and reading her name throughout the book filled my heart.
•Wrath- He has the potential to be up there with Rhysand and Casteel I’m sensing! (ok maybe not as close to Casteel ❤️)
•Witches- I love reading about witches and witchcraft!

Things I didn’t like:
•Emilia’s dumb decisions- she was a horrible decision maker.
•Confusing narrative- I noticed there were a lot of paragraphs that I had no idea who was talking. I had to reread back to figure it out or read it slowly. To this fast reader that was annoying!
•Confusing elements of time and place- it felt like there were big chunks where all of sudden the time and place would change without anything in the middle to explain.

The ending was the clincher though. It baited me enough to not just want to read the second book but to buy it almost right away
