Review: The Wicked King

The Wicked King by Holly Black

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genre: Fantasy

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

Synopsis:

Jude has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

Thoughts:

The second book in The Folk of the Air trilogy brings us back to Elfhame with Jude and Cardan. I was worried this one would have a case of second book syndrome but it was just as great as book one! Jude is now the one to call the shots and she’s such a kick butt lead. This book is just as action packed as the first and starts up the increasing attraction that Jude and Cardan are having. Enemies to lovers coming in hot! The magical universe that the author creates is amazing to get swept up in. I love her writing and immersing myself in her stories. And the ending literally had me downloading and immediately starting the third book!

Overall:

A great second book and great continuation in the series! So excited for the third and final book!
